Puri, Feb 28: Today, the sacred Govinda Dwadashi Snana is being observed at the Puri Sea, resembling a grand spiritual gathering akin to a Mahakumbh. This annual ritual falls on the Shukla Paksha Dwadashi of the holy month of Phalguna and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu's half-lion, half-human incarnation, Lord Narasimha, who is believed to be one of the deity’s most powerful manifestations.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Narasimha emerged from a pillar to defeat the demon Hiranyakashipu, who had forbidden the worship of Lord Vishnu in his kingdom. Devotees across India celebrate this day by taking a holy bath in sacred rivers like the Ganga and offering prayers to Lord Narasimha, seeking his blessings for a prosperous life.
