Sundargarh, March 19: A shocking case of armed robbery has been reported from the Nabarangpur area under Sadar police limits, where four masked miscreants looted cash and gold ornaments worth over ₹20 lakh from a house.

According to reports, the house owner, Ramesh Nag, and his wife were alone at home when the incident occurred. Taking advantage of the situation, four miscreants reached the house and asked for water. As soon as Ramesh responded, the accused allegedly held him at gunpoint and forcibly entered the house.

The robbers then ransacked the house and decamped with valuables before the couple could react. They reportedly looted around ₹1 lakh in cash along with gold ornaments worth more than ₹20 lakh.

After the incident, the house owner lodged a complaint with the police. Acting on the information, police officials rushed to the spot and began an investigation.

Senior officers, including the IICs of Sadar and Town police stations and the SDPO, visited the scene as part of the probe. Police are also planning to deploy a sniffer dog to aid the investigation.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the miscreants had prior information that the couple was alone at home. Police are examining whether local criminals or an inter-state gang was involved in the robbery.

Further investigation is underway.
