Puri, Jan 2: The Puri district administration has issued an urgent advisory, suspending all ferry services and tourist boat operations in Chilika Lake till 11 am due to poor visibility caused by dense morning fog. The advisory highlights the serious safety risks posed by the reduced visibility, which could lead to marine accidents, mishaps, and potential loss of life.

The official letter emphasizes the need for caution, stating that “the prevailing heavy fog and poor visibility conditions reported across the district may pose serious risks to life and property. As a precautionary measure, the administration has directed all concerned authorities to ensure that no ferry services or tourist boats operate until the fog clears.

The following directives have been issued to ensure safety:

Suspension of ferry and boat services: All ferry and boat services across rivers, lakes, and other water bodies will remain suspended during periods of heavy fog and low visibility.

Regular monitoring: Local administration and police personnel will conduct regular checks at ferry ghats to prevent unauthorized boat operations during the fog.

Public awareness: Block Development Officers (BDOs) and local authorities are tasked with making public announcements and raising awareness to inform commuters and villagers about the suspension for safety reasons.

Strict enforcement: The Tahasildars, BDOs, Executive Officers of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), and police authorities are responsible for ensuring the enforcement of these safety measures. Any violations will be treated seriously, and appropriate action will be taken.

This advisory will remain in effect until weather conditions improve, with authorities keeping a close watch on the situation. The district administration has urged all concerned officials to treat this directive as "Extremely Urgent."
