Global experts gather to shape future of digital governance

India is all set to solidify its position as a global technology powerhouse with the commencement of the highly anticipated India AI Impact Summit. Scheduled to take place from February 16 to 20 at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam, this event marks a significant milestone in the nation's digital journey.

Policymakers, industry titans, and global innovators will converge to discuss how Artificial Intelligence can be used for the greater good. The summit aims to move beyond theoretical discussions and focus on real-world applications. The core agenda is structured around seven thematic 'Chakras' or pillars. These include building safe and trusted AI systems, ensuring social empowerment through inclusion, and democratizing access to technology resources.

Market projections suggest that India is on the cusp of a major tech revolution. Reports indicate the domestic AI market could surpass USD 17 billion by 2027. This growth is fueled by a massive internet user base of 800 million and a government committed to digital literacy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has previously emphasized the need to democratize technology. His vision aligns with the summit's goal to create "AI for All." The focus remains on making these advanced tools accessible to everyone, from farmers in rural regions to students in urban hubs. For instance, AI applications are already helping farmers predict weather patterns and manage pest risks, showcasing the technology's practical utility.

To support this ecosystem, the Government of India launched the IndiaAI mission in March 2024 with a substantial budget of Rs 10,372 crore. This initiative aims to develop indigenous datasets and models, ensuring India remains sovereign and competitive.

Employment is another key area of discussion. Contrary to fears of job losses, experts believe AI will drive employment. A recent NASSCOM report highlights that India’s AI talent pool is expected to double, reaching over 1.25 million professionals by 2027.

With robust infrastructure and a young, skilled workforce, India is ready to lead the charge in defining the future of global technology governance.
