Sambalpur, March 14: In a shocking development in the double child death case at Sargidihi village under Mahulpali police limits in Sambalpur district, the mother accused of throwing her two minor daughters into a well has died by suicide. Her hanging body was recovered on Saturday, prompting police to begin an investigation.

The incident first came to light on Friday when the bodies of two sisters were rescued from a well near their house. They were rushed to the Govindpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead. One of the victims was a four-month-old infant, while the other was a six-year-old girl.

According to villagers and family members, the woman was reportedly suffering from mental illness. Preliminary investigation revealed that she had thrown both daughters into the well located in a field near their house. The matter came to light after her husband questioned her about the children.

Following the incident, the woman had reportedly fled from the village. Her hanging body was later recovered, adding another tragic turn to the case. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
