Nuapada, Nov 11: The ongoing Nuapada by-election registered 51.42 percent voter turnout by 1 PM on Tuesday.

Polling began smoothly this morning in the crucial Nuapada Assembly by-poll, with voters lining up early to choose among 14 candidates in a triangular contest led by BJP’s Jay Dholakia, BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria, and Congress’s Ghasiram Majhi.

Earlier today, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. S. Gopalan announced the suspension of Presiding Officer Dhananjay Mallick for breaching voting secrecy during the Nuapada by-election. He was overseeing Polling Station No. 36 at GUPS, Kuliabandha.

It is worth noting that as many as 2,53,624 registered voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the crucial by-poll, of which 1,29,495 are women and 1,24,108 are men.

The Nuapada by-election was necessitated by the death of four-time MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8, 2025.

Counting of votes and results will be declared on November 14.
