Delhi, October 29: The Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS), a first-of-its-kind initiative to strengthen Janbhagidari (public participation) and promote participatory local governance will be launched across the country on Thursday.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, will jointly organise a national launch of MYGS in New Delhi. The event will be graced by Union Minister MoS for Panchayati Raj and Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel and Union MoS for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey.
During the event, a Training Module on Model Youth Gram Sabha and the MYGS Portal will also be unveiled. These digital tools have been developed to facilitate effective implementation of the initiative, build teacher capacity, and promote active student engagement in grassroots democracy.
The initiative will be rolled out across more than 1,000 schools nationwide, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and State Government Schools.
Senior officers from the Ministries of Panchayati Raj, Education and Tribal Affairs along with over 650 delegates, including students, teachers, and elected representatives from PRIs of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana, and State Panchayati Raj Departments etc. will also be present on this occasion.
The MYGS is an initiative to strengthen Janbhagidari and promote participatory local governance by engaging students in simulated Gram Sabha sessions. Aligned with National Education Policy 2020, it aims to inculcate democratic values, civic responsibility and leadership among youth, nurturing future citizens committed to transparency, accountability and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
