Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: In an unprecedented incident, a cab driver in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar  was held on Thursday for robbing a tourist’s valuables during a short trip in the city.

The Chandrasekharpur Police arrested the driver, identified as Naga Paramanik & recovered the stolen valuables worth over Rs 20 lakh from his possession.

According to the complaint registered with the police, one Aman Agarwal returned to Bhubaneswar wrapping up his Thailand Trip yesterday night. Landing here in the BPI Airport, he hired a cab to go for his home a few kilometers away from the Chandrasekharpur area. While the car was on the way towards Aman’s home, its operator Paramnik abruptly stopped the car near Chandrasekharpur and reporting that the vehicle turned out of order that needed emergency repair. Meanwhile, he also asked Agarwal to deboard. However, the driver escaped with Agarwal’s suitcase that contained valuables including imported items and vintage collections from Thailand, soon after the hirer came out of the vehicle.

Following this, Aman dialed the driver frequently on his mobile thinking that the driver might be coming to pick him after repair of the cab, but in vain. Consequently, he moved police and briefed of his ordeal.

Based upon a written complaint, the Chandrasekharpur Police tracked the cunning driver within an hour-long effort, nabbed him and recovered gold and diamond ornaments, foreign currencies and other vintage collections that the tourist had fetched from Thailand.
