Mumbai, Jan 29: Full state honours were given to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday as his mortal remains were taken to the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati for his final rites.

Ajit Pawar’s body was kept at the Vidya Pratishthan ground to allow the public to pay their last respects. His wife, Sunetra Pawar, and sons, Parth and Jay Pawar, were present during the emotional occasion. NCP chief Sharad Pawar also reached the ground to pay his tributes to his nephew.

As the mortal remains were brought to the ground, Ajit Pawar's supporters chanted, “Ajit Dada Amar Rahe,” in a show of solidarity and respect.

The 66-year-old Pawar tragically passed away on Wednesday in a chartered plane crash while en route from Mumbai to Baramati to campaign for the Zilla Panchayat elections.

Pawar is survived by his wife Sunetra and their two sons, Jay and Parth. In the wake of this loss, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has declared a state holiday and announced three days of mourning.
