Mercury likely to dip significantly within next twenty-four hours

Bhubaneswar: Residents across the state should prepare for a colder weekend as the latest weather analysis indicates a significant shift in conditions. According to the data released by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar on February 6, 2026, night temperatures are poised to take a downward turn.

Temperature Fluctuations Expected

Weather experts have predicted that the Minimum Temperature (night temperature) is likely to fall by 2-3°C over the next 24 hours. This dip will bring back a chill to the air across various districts. Following this immediate drop, the temperature is expected to hold steady with no large changes for the subsequent three days. However, looking further ahead, the mercury is projected to rise again by 2-3°C after that brief stable period.

Current Extremes in the State

Data from Friday shows that Similiguda continues to be the coldest spot in the state, recording a shivering 8.7°C among the hill stations. In the plains, Jharsuguda recorded a unique weather pattern, registering both the state's highest maximum temperature at 32.8°C and the lowest minimum temperature for the plains at 12.0°C.

For the Twin Cities, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum of 31.7°C and a minimum of 16.6°C, while Cuttack saw slightly cooler numbers with a minimum of 15.4°C.

Fog Alerts for Coastal Belts

Visibility remains a concern for commuters in coastal regions. A warning for shallow to moderate fog has been issued for several districts.

  • Day 1 & 2: Fog is very likely in isolated pockets of Puri, Kendrapada, Khordha, Bhadrak, Balasore, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
  • Paradip Update: Very dense fog was observed in Paradip with visibility dropping below 50 meters, urging caution for early morning travelers.

As dry weather prevails over the rest of the districts, citizens are advised to keep warm clothing handy for the approaching colder nights.
