​​​​​​​Baripada, Dec 20: In a rare accident, a youth in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district jumped into a canal with his bike due to elephant scare.

After stranded nightlong in water, the victim was rescued by the locals and rushed to hospital for treatment on Sunday.

The incident took place at the Kapoi village under the Rasagovindapur police limit last night.

According to reports, the youth whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was commuting to his village in the evening on Friday riding his bike. Meanwhile, he encountered a wild elephant near the Kapoi Weekly Market, a few meters to his bike. Getting no way out, he tried to drive the vehicles towards the canal embankment, in a bid to save his life.However, his bike veered into the canal and he fell in the water.He made an all our effort to get out of the canal filled with water, but in vain. On the other hand,his alarm could never reach others who could save him as the place was almost far from human settlement and there were even no passersby on the road for cold winter. As a result, he remained trapped in the canal nightlong.

A few locals discovered him today in a critical condition and rushed him to Rasagovindapur Hospital for resuscitation.
