Bhawanipatna, May 21: Tension prevailed during the Melody Night event of the Khelo Mahotsav organised by MLA Sagar Charan Das in Bhawanipatna after a youth was allegedly stabbed late on Wednesday night. The incident took place at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Kalahandi while the cultural programme was underway.

According to sources, a group of youths suddenly attacked Dinesh Sabar of Kanabira village under Sadar police limits, creating panic at the venue. Dinesh sustained a stab injury above the right side of his waist and collapsed on the spot. More than 10 youths were allegedly involved in the attack.

Police personnel present at the venue rescued the injured youth and shifted him to the Bhawanipatna District Headquarters Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be critical.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 1 AM. Though the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, Town Police have launched a preliminary investigation into the matter. No formal complaint had been lodged till the filing of this report.
