Dhenkanal, June 25: A youth from Kanapura village in Odisha's Dhenkanal district rescued an injured deer from a pack of stray dogs and handed it over to the Forest Department, ensuring timely treatment and its safe return to the wild.
The incident occurred near Chilida village under the Kamakhyanagar East Range of the Dhenkanal Forest Division. Manoj Kumar Rout, a resident of Kanapura village, was returning from Kaliahata village in Keonjhar district when he noticed a deer being attacked by a group of dogs.
Realising the animal was in distress, Manoj immediately intervened and successfully rescued the injured deer from the dogs. He then informed forest officials and handed over the animal to the Forest Department for further care.
A team from the Forest Department subsequently provided medical treatment to the injured deer. After ensuring that the animal had recovered and was fit to survive in the wild, officials released it into a nearby forest area.
The prompt action and compassion shown by the youth have been appreciated by local residents and forest officials as well, as his timely intervention helped save the life of the wild animal.
