Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: A young man reportedly jumped into a river from the Tankapani Bridge, triggering a search operation by police and fire services. The incident occurred late at night, and efforts to locate the missing youth continued into the early hours.
The youth has been identified as Bhavani Shankar Khatei.
According to reports, he jumped from the bridge into the river and subsequently drowned, following which a search operation was launched.
Personnel from Balipatna Police Station and the Fire Services Department reached the spot and began searching the river for the missing youth. The operation continued late into the night.
The rescue team reportedly faced difficulties during the search as fishing nets were present in the river. The nets repeatedly became entangled with the rescue boat, hampering the movement of the team and slowing down the search operation.
The Balipatna Fire Services team resumed the search operation early this morning in an effort to locate Bhavani Shankar Khatei.
According to preliminary information, the youth was working as a delivery boy.
