
Berhampur, Sept 6: In a gruesome incident, a youth was allegedly hacked to death over a group clash that broke out during Ganesh 'visarjan' (immersion) in Aska area of Odisha's Ganjam district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Chandan Bisoi, who was living in a rented accommodation in Kankarada village.
As per reports, the incident took place at Seragada village when two groups clashed during the Ganesh 'visarjan' (immersion) around midnight. One of the groups included the sarpanch, while the other included Chandan. The clash soon turned violent when the accused hacked Chandan with sharp-edged weapons leading to his death on the spot.
Sources stated that a group of 20-25 youths arrived in cars and confronted the sarpanch outside his house. The sarpanch, along with his supporters, retaliated, leading to a violent and bloody clash.
The murder came to light this morning when some locals spotted Chandan’s blood-stained body and alerted the police.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem. Villagers revealed that the two groups had a history of ongoing enmity and frequent clashes.
A case has been registered and an investigation into the matter is underway. The weapons of offence including a knife and iron rod have been seized, said the police.
