Jajpur, August 19: Tension prevailed at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital on Monday following the alleged death of a youth after being administered a wrong injection. The deceased, identified as 30-year-old Bharat Das from Baunsha Kanta village under Dharmasala block, had been admitted to the hospital on suspicion of poisoning but was reportedly recovering well.
Sources said Bharat was brought to the hospital on Sunday after his family suspected he had consumed poison. Doctors stated that his condition had stabilized, and he was slated for discharge on Monday. In fact, witnesses said he was seen walking around the hospital premises on Monday morning.
However, the situation took a tragic turn when a staff nurse allegedly administered an injection, after which Bharat’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Despite efforts to revive him, he was declared dead shortly afterward.
The incident sparked outrage among family members, who accused the hospital staff of negligence and claimed the wrong injection led to Bharat’s untimely death. Tension gripped the hospital campus as relatives and locals gathered to demand accountability.
To maintain law and order, police personnel have been deployed at the hospital. An inquiry into the incident is likely to be initiated, though no official statement from hospital authorities was available at the time of reporting.
