Indian athletes Yashvir and Rohit secure double javelin medals

Indian javelin throwers Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav earned silver and bronze medals respectively at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. Track and field events historically drive India's success at continental competitions, and this double podium finish highlights that growing strength. Yashvir secured his spot by registering a personal-best distance of 85.72 meters during his last attempt. He maintained a top-three position throughout the event, opening with an 83.56-meter effort before peaking in the final round.

Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage from Sri Lanka took home the gold medal. He threw 88.55 meters on his final attempt, building upon an earlier 88.33-meter throw that initially gave him the lead. Pakistani competitor Arshad Nadeem finished just outside the podium places in fourth with a best mark of 80.29 meters. Rohit grabbed his bronze following a highly consistent performance. He steadily improved from a 77.25-meter opening throw to an 84.35-meter effort in the third round. This mark was enough to guarantee his podium finish despite a foul on his final turn. These two javelin medals push India's overall tally at the event to 45. The country has collected four gold, 20 silver, and 21 bronze medals so far. India currently holds the 12th position in the overall medal standings, with the athletics contingent alone contributing 19 of those national honours.
