Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: The paddy procurement process in Odisha has begun smoothly across 19 districts, according to Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra. Following discussions with the Millers’ Association, the government accepted certain demands from rice millers and issued directives to ensure uninterrupted operations.

As of Wednesday, procurement has reached 3,15,431 farmers, yielding 13,93,867 metric tonnes of paddy. Millers have already lifted 13,59,974 metric tonnes, keeping the supply chain active. Additionally, the government has disbursed ₹891.58 crore in input assistance to farmers, reinforcing support during the procurement season.

Minister Patra highlighted the administration’s focus on safeguarding farmers’ interests while addressing operational concerns of millers. The government aims to avoid bottlenecks by issuing clear instructions and ensuring seamless procurement.

The smooth progress of the drive is seen as vital, given the large scale of participation and the volume of paddy being handled. Farmers have welcomed the timely intervention, with financial assistance and assured paddy lifting providing crucial relief during the harvest.

Authorities are closely monitoring procurement, which is expected to continue efficiently across all districts. These proactive measures are viewed as a positive step toward strengthening Odisha’s agricultural economy and ensuring food security, setting a strong precedent for future operations.
