Meanwhile, a serious case of medical negligence has emerged from Maharaja Yashwant Rao (MY) Hospital in Indore, where a nurse severed the thumb of a one-and-a-quarter-month-old infant while attempting to remove a venflon from the child’s hand. The infant, who was being treated for pneumonia, was immediately transferred to Super Speciality Hospital, where doctors from MGM Medical College performed surgery to successfully reattach the severed thumb.

According to Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, Dean of MGM Medical College, the incident occurred when a nurse attempted to remove the venflon that was secured with a dynaplast adhesive bandage. During the process, the nurse inadvertently severed the infant's thumb.

“The child was immediately transferred to Super Speciality Hospital, and surgery was successfully performed to reattach the thumb. The child’s condition is stable, and they were previously on a ventilator. The child was admitted due to pneumonia,” Dr Ghanghoria said.

Following the incident, Nursing Officer Arti Kshetri has been suspended and an inquiry has been initiated. Furthermore, three other nurses involved have had their salaries withheld for a month.
