Cuttack, Sept: As many as four technicians of Redcross blood bank were suspended for providing a wrong blood unit to a patient on Sunday.
The accused technicians have been identified as Raicle Thomas, Ranjan Das, Tapas Mahanta and Sandeep Swain.
According to the information, the relative of a patient had taken an A+ blood unit from the Red Cross Blood Bank in Cuttack. However, minutes after the blood transfusion, the patient's condition deteriorated. Later verified, it turned out to be B+ instead of A+.
After a complaint by the family members of the patient, the director of the blood bank suspended the four technicians for negligence of duty.
Similarly, an elderly man became critical after he was allegedly administered the wrong blood group in a private hospital in Cuttack last week. A relative of the patient had taken an A+ blood unit from the Central Red Cross blood bank. However, minutes after the blood transfusion, the patient’s condition worsened and he was shifted to ICU. When the blood was later sent for testing to a private lab, it turned out B+ instead of A+. The patient’s kin claimed that the pouch has A+ written on it while it had the wrong blood type inside.
