Berhampur, Feb 16: The Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Campus-3, at Sitalapalli here has been taking steps to extend world class cardiac care to patients in south Odisha, Saswati Das, Vice-President of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA), said here on Saturday.

IMS and SUM Hospital-3 has been making all efforts to extend quality healthcare services to the people of the region though it has started functioning recently, Ms. Das said while addressing a program organised to mark the hospital’s third annual day.

Das also inaugurated a Cath Lab and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Operation Theatre in the hospital on the occasion. “We aim to provide world class cardiac care to the patients here,” she said.

Speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Lumina 2026’ event organised on the occasion, she said the multi-specialty hospital was conferred with the NABH accreditation within a short period which was the authentication of the quality service the hospital had been extending to the people. She praised the efforts of all doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers which helped the hospital to reach out to the people.

She said there was a plan to upgrade the 200-bedded hospital into a 700-bedded hospital in the near future with the addition of 500 more beds.

Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA Deemed to be University, who attended the program as guest of honour, said SOA had set up four medical institutions in Odisha of which two were medical colleges while the other two were hospitals extending quality healthcare service to the people.

SOA had already established itself as a name to reckon with in the field of higher education and health care in the region, he said.

A souvenir titled ‘Lumina 2026’ was released at the program which was also attended by Ms. Upasana Nayak, Member of SOA.

Deba Prasad Dash, Director of the hospital, presented a detailed report about the functioning of the hospital and the progress it had achieved so far. Dr. Ayodhyanath Padhi, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, delivered the welcome address while Dr. Priyajit Panigrahi, Deputy Medical Superintendent, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Archana Tripathy, Nursing Superintendent of the hospital was felicitated on the occasion.
