New Delhi, June 4: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a symbolic yet powerful green initiative — planting a Banyan tree sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in New Delhi on June 5 at 10:15 AM.
The event is part of the nationwide campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, which encourages citizens to plant trees in tribute to their mothers, blending the themes of maternal love and environmental stewardship.
Launched by PM Modi himself on June 5, 2024, with the planting of a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park, the campaign has since gained momentum as a national movement inspiring ecological responsibility through personal connection.
This plantation drive also forms a crucial part of the Aravalli Green Wall Project — a large-scale ecological restoration mission aimed at reviving the green belt along the 700-kilometre-long Aravalli range. Spanning 29 districts across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, the project focuses on afforestation, reforestation, and rejuvenation of local water bodies. Beyond environmental gains, it also aims to enhance soil health, boost water availability, increase biodiversity, and support livelihood generation in the region.
Adding to the green push, the Prime Minister will also flag off 200 electric buses as part of Delhi’s clean transport initiative, reinforcing India's push toward sustainable urban mobility and reduced air pollution.
Highlighting India’s progress in expanding forest cover and promoting clean energy, PM Modi continues to advocate for community participation in environmental protection. These twin efforts — mass tree plantation and adoption of electric public transport — reflect the government’s integrated approach to ecological preservation and inclusive development.
