Mumbai, Nov 17: Fifty years after its legendary release, the iconic Indian film Sholay is set to make a grand return to the big screen. The film has been meticulously restored in 4K and will be re-released across 1,500 screens nationwide on December 12, 2025.

Titled Sholay: The Final Cut, the restored version not only features upgraded visuals and sound but also includes the film’s uncut original climax—a scene that audiences have never seen before. According to the Film Heritage Foundation, in the original ending, Thakur kills Gabbar Singh by crushing him under his feet, a sequence that was previously altered by the Censor Board due to its graphic violence.

Directed by Ramesh Sippy and first released in 1975, Sholay remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated films. The movie’s enduring popularity is fueled by memorable performances from Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, and Hema Malini, along with iconic dialogues and legendary action sequences.

The re-release offers fans, old and new, the rare chance to experience the film as it was originally intended, solidifying Sholay’s place as a timeless classic in Indian film history.
