Bhubaneswar, Jul 20: A man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly attempting to rape a young woman after offering her a lift from the Khordha bus stand, police said.
According to the woman's complaint, the accused offered to drop her at her destination but instead took her to a forest with alleged criminal intent. He reportedly attempted to sexually assault her, but she managed to escape before the assault could be carried out.
After fleeing, the woman found herself lost inside the forest and struggled to find a way out. With only 10 percent battery left on her mobile phone, she contacted the police, triggering an urgent rescue operation before her phone lost power.
Police immediately launched a large-scale search, deploying more than 50 personnel to locate her. After an intensive search, officers safely rescued the woman from the Ratanpur Reserve Forest area.
Following her rescue, the survivor filed a complaint at the Infovalley Police Station, alleging an attempted rape. Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused and initiated further investigation into the case.
Authorities are continuing their probe to establish the full sequence of events.
