Rourkela, March 30: In a significant development amid intensified action against Maoist activities, a 19-year-old woman Maoist surrendered before Rourkela Police on the final day of the government’s deadline for extremists to lay down arms.

According to police sources, the surrendered cadre was an active member of the Maoist outfit, associated with the Local Guerrilla Squad (LGS). She hails from Holomuli village under Chotanagra police station limits in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.

Police said the woman had joined the Maoist organisation after being influenced by its ideology and was involved in multiple violent incidents. She was reportedly linked to the Banko stone quarry blast and an IED explosion on a railway track.

Officials stated that the surrender is part of ongoing efforts to bring Maoist cadres into the mainstream. As per government policy, the surrendered Maoist will receive financial assistance of ₹2.25 lakh along with benefits under the rehabilitation scheme.

Rourkela SP, along with the DIG of Western Range, confirmed the development and reiterated the administration’s commitment to support those willing to shun violence and rejoin society.
