Jagatsinghpur, Aug 21: A woman lecturer and her son in Jagatsinghpur district have been arrested on charges of torturing her daughter-in-law over dowry.

Rashmita Behera of Dhenkanal district had married one Suprava Jena’s son Kharavela Digvijay, of Jagatsinghpur district. Two months post-marriage, the family members allegedly started pressurizing her to bring Rs 10 lakh dowry to buy a car. When she refused, they started torturing her both mentally and physically. In fact, Suprava, who worked as a History lecturer at Swami Vivekananda Memorial Autonomous College at Jagatsinghpur allegedly branded her daughter-in-law Rashmita Behera with a hot pan after the latter burnt bread while baking the same a few days ago.
Later, Rashmita lodged a complaint in this regard with Bhuban police in this regards.
Following this, the police arrested Suprava and her son Digvijay Kharavel by registering a case in this regard.
