Woman in Dhenkanal attempts self-immolation getting no mercy from Police, rescued

Dhenkanal, August 24:While self-immolation in Odisha is on the rise for reportedly sheer negligence of police in addressing victim’s concern, another woman in Dhenkanal was rescued by police during her suicidal bid on Saturday.

The survivor has been identified as Lisa Sethi who hails basically from Jagatsinghpur but settled in Dhenkanal.

According to the reports, Lisa after her love-marriage was living with her husband in Dhenkanal. However,  the couple was forced to leave home as the in-laws did not support the marriage.Meanwhile, their mental torture crossed limit whereas some of them abused Lisa most of the time.

Acting on it, Lisa moved Dhenkanal Town & Sadar Police Station with a complaint to resolve her concern. However, the town-police denied to receive it citing jurisdiction problem whereas the Sadar Police station initiated no steps on her ordeal. Rather, the recipient woman cop demoralized her abusing like everything.

Following this, the frustrated woman doused petrol on her body and attempted self-immolation at the Dhenkanal SP office that was averted in time by the officials.

Following this, the SP assured of stringent action against the offenders, who tortured the woman whereas he put two concerned Sub-Inspectors under suspension for dereliction of duty. 

According to Dhenkanal SP Abhinav Sonkar, Utkal Bijay Mohanty, SI Dhenkanal Town police station and Rosalin Minja of Sadar Police station have faced the action for their inordinate delay in dealing with the woman’s concern.
