Ganjam, June 24: In a tragic incident, an elderly woman was killed in electrocution on Tuesday while she was felling a moringa tree from her backyard.
Three others including the woman’s spouse and two daughters became critical while they attempted to save.
The fateful incident took place in the Damodarpur village under the Ganjam NAC in the afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Damayanti Reddy whereas the injured ones are Narayan (spouse) and daughters, Basanti and Buli.
According to reports, Reddy family was felling a moringa plant from their garden. Meanwhile, the branches of the tree came in contact with a charged powerline. As a result, Damayanti was severely electrocuted while three others were also hurt in the mishap. All of them were rushed to the hospital for rescuscitation where the elderly woman was declared received dead.
On being informed, Police seized the body from the hospital and initiated an investigation into it.
