Rourkela, April 27: A woman and three others from her family were arrested on Saturday for allegedly duping of Rs 15 lakh from a businessman in Rourkela.
The Biramitrapur Police have seized huge cache of money, fake UIDs and ATM cards from the possession of the mastermind woman identified as Jharana Badi.
According to police, Jharana Badi befriended a businessman Sumit Mishra on Facebook. During frequent chatting with Mishra she falsely introduced herself as a renowned jeweller and truck owner of the area. Meanwhile, she lured Mishra to a hotel with Rs 15 lakh cash to discuss regarding a prospective business plan. Accordingly, Mishra reached the scheduled spot with cash to work out on the futuristic plan. However, Jharana accompanied by three family members, cunningly eloped with the bag containing the cash.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim, the police initiated an investigation and cracked the high-profile woman’s modus operandi, who used to cheat a number of moneyed people in Jharsuguda this way.
“We are open to register more complaints in this connection. Further investigations are underway”, said the investigation officer.
