Tragic Mirzapur Train Accident: 4 Killed Crossing Tracks After Deboarding on Wrong Side

A horrific Mirzapur train accident in Uttar Pradesh has claimed the lives of at least four people on Wednesday. The tragic incident occurred at the Chunar railway junction when the victims were struck by an oncoming train shortly after alighting from another, in a fatal lapse of safety.

According to railway officials who detailed the event, the four individuals had just arrived on the Chopan-Prayagraj Express. In a critical error, they deboarded the train on the side opposite the designated platform.

As they attempted the extremely dangerous act of railway track crossing to get to the main platform area, they were struck by the Howrah-Kalka Netaji Express. This train was travelling at speed on the adjacent line from the opposite direction.

The collision was immediate and fatal, with all four individuals pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have emphasized that the victims were supposed to deboard on the platform side. This accident, they stated, was a direct result of the passengers choosing to ignore basic safety protocols, leading to this devastating train accident death.

This incident throws a harsh spotlight on the critical issue of Indian Railways safety. Authorities repeatedly warn passengers against alighting on the non-platform side and strictly prohibit crossing railway tracks, urging the use of foot over-bridges (FOBs) or designated crossing points.

In response to the tragedy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He immediately directed senior officials to reach the spot, ensure all relief work is expedited, and provide all possible support to the affected families.

For passengers across the country, this event serves as a critical Odisha train passenger alert. It is a grim reminder for all travelers, including those under the East Coast Railway safety jurisdiction, that adhering to railway safety rules is non-negotiable and can be the difference between life and death.
