New Delhi, March 16: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that 57.78 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been successfully opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), with a total deposit balance of ₹2,94,702 crore as of February 25.

Out of these accounts, 32.21 crore (55.8%) are held by women, showcasing the scheme's significant impact on financial inclusion for women. Additionally, 45.17 crore accounts (78.2%) have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas, reflecting the government's efforts to extend banking services to remote regions, Sitharaman shared in the Lok Sabha.

The Finance Minister also highlighted the progress of two key insurance schemes. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), 26.88 crore enrollments have been recorded, offering a ₹2 lakh life insurance cover against death due to any cause.

Furthermore, the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) has achieved 57.11 crore enrollments, providing one-year accidental cover of ₹2 lakh for death or permanent total disability, and ₹1 lakh for permanent partial disability, as of February 25, 2026.
