Paralakhemundi, Aug 18: A 75-year-old ailing woman was carried on a trolley rickshaw to the municipality office to receive her old-age pension in Odisha's Gajapati district.

The septuagenarian, Labang Gaya of ward no -12 of Paralakhemundi Municipality had not received her pension money for the last three months.

Her grandson visited the bank several times for the pension but returned empty-handed as the authorities said to collect the money from the municipality office.

Later, her daughter Dalimba Benia and grandson carried her to the Paralakhemundi Municipality office on a trolley rickshaw and collected the pension money.

On being asked about the incident, Paralakhemundi Municipality Executive Officer Banamali Satpathy said, “I’m unaware of the incident. Action will be taken against the concerned person after an appropriate inquiry.”

Notably, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had raised concern over a 70-year-old woman walking barefoot with the support of a plastic chair to collect her old age pension from the State Bank of India (SBI) in Odisha in April this year.

The video of her struggles to approach the bank in blistering heat had gone viral on social media triggering widespread criticism.
