Cuttack, Aug 16: A woman has been critical after she set herself afire in front of Mahanga police station in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Rashmita of Kartang village under the Mahanga police limit.
She was rushed to the SCB Medical College & Hospital (SCB MC&H) for resuscitation.
Sources said, the woman took the extreme decision to release her husband who was picked by police on charges of theft.
As per reports, Rashmita reached the Mahanga police station in the morning and appealed the police to release her husband pleading him innocent.However, the police did not set him free were not convinced.
Following this, an irked Rashmita sprinkled petrol on her body and set herself on fire. She was immediately rescued from the spot and rushed to the Government Hospital at Mahanga. Later, she was shifted to the SCB MC&H as her condition went worse.
