Angul, Oct 1: Meeting and parting, is the go of life; so the welcome & farewell, to an official during his see off. However,Angul Municipality was mourning on Wednesday while a to z officials of the ULB, were agonized  in profound grief and were almost spell bound, to spare its iconic sanitary supervisor Laxman Gochhayat at his day of cessation, scheduled today.

Laxman, who was employed as a mere sweeper at least 35 years ago, was superannuated as a sanitary supervisor, for his stupendous commitment to keep the industrial city, clean & green.

Laxman, who was rehabilitated by the Municipality in the captive Sweeper Colony at Hemsurpada in the town, was felicitated with memento on his last day in the office that's today. On a splendid occaision, he was awarded the honour where he was asked about his wish.

The elated janitor, who had inspired the ULB authorities initiate night sanitation program, expressed his desire to dine with the Executive Officer, to whom he was reporting as his Big Boss almost for last three decades.

Acknowledging the sanitation warrior’s peculiar spirit, Executive Officer, Satyaprakash Tripathy, accompanied Laxman in the office car, for a star hotel and shared dinner with him.

Following this, the ‘Clean & Green Angul’ Ambassador was dropped at his residence, followed by a convoy of vehicles, filled with Municipality crew members, to extend Laxman tearful adieus, like either a VIP or a confidante member of one unique family.

" I had never expected such a magnificent see off and heartfelt respect, from my Saheb and my peer officials", said Laxman lauding the EO's deep respect to his profession of mopping , that's usually considered inferior in the society.

Recognising the contribution of the departing clean warrior, Angul Municipality EO Tripathy said, Laxman had once upon a time shared his idea of night-time sanitation that clinched the 'Cleaner City' national Award for the ULB along with sizeable cash prize on International Day of clean air for blue skies-2013.

His sole contribution to the cleanliness drive across the city during the pandemic was more praiseworthy, Tripathy added.
