Port of Spain (West Indies), Aug 10: Keshav Maharaj's non-stop 28 overs of spin with subtle control, pace variations, use of different angles and trajectories against hosts West Indies, helped him get three vital first innings wickets.
As a result of Maharaj's splendid and marathon spin-bowling efforts of 3/45, West Indies were 145/4 on Day 3 at stumps against the South Africa. The other Caribbean first innings wicket that fell on the day was a run out.
Earlier, visitors South Africa gathered 357 in their first innings with skipper Temba Bavuma's fighting 86 in 182 balls and opener Tony de Zorzi's 78 in 145 balls.
Down the order, Proteas wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne and Wiann Mulder played useful knocks of 39 and unbeaten 41 respectively.
For the hosts, slow left-arm orthodox Jomel Andrel Warrican was the most successful bowler with 4/69 figure. Caribbean pacers Jayden Seales (3/67), Kemar Roch (2/53) and Jason Holder (1/39) too tested success.
