Cold wave conditions persist as fog disrupts morning visibility
Winter conditions in Odisha are intensifying slightly as the regional meteorological center forecasts steady cold temperatures and foggy mornings for several districts. Residents across the state, particularly in the twin cities and coastal belts, woke up to misty conditions today, January 25, with similar weather expected to continue over the next few days.
Coldest Spots in the State
According to the latest data from the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, the chill is most severe in the hill stations. G. Udayagiri has emerged as the coldest location in the state, recording a shivering minimum temperature of 5.7°C.
In the plains, Rourkela recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 8.5°C. On the other end of the spectrum, Paralakhemundi remains the warmest spot with a maximum temperature reaching 31.6°C.
Fog Warning Issued
Visibility remains a primary concern for commuters. The IMD has issued a forecast for shallow to moderate fog likely to occur during early morning hours across several districts. The affected areas include: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal
Specific alerts note that Dhenkanal has experienced very dense fog with visibility dropping below 50 meters, while Bhawanipatna saw moderate fog.
Twin City Forecast
For residents of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the forecast predicts moderate fog for the next three days. Daytime temperatures will hover around 31°C in the capital and 27°C in Cuttack, with night temperatures remaining cool at approximately 14°C and 13°C respectively.
Looking Ahead
Weather experts suggest there will be no large change in minimum temperatures (night temperature) over the next four days. However, a slight relief from the cold is expected afterward, with a predicted rise of 2-3°C in the subsequent days across various districts of Odisha.
