Maritime Excellence Drives Unprecedented Growth At Odisha’s Premier Major Port

Paradip Port Authority has kicked off 2026 by hitting a historic milestone in maritime logistics. The port managed to handle a staggering 14.44 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo throughout January. This performance has effectively eclipsed the previous January high of 14.32 MMT, which was set back in 2024. This achievement solidifies its status as a frontrunner among India's major ports.

The surge in numbers highlights the port's growing operational strength and improved infrastructure. Over the last few years, the management has focused on streamlining processes and upgrading terminal coordination. These strategic moves have allowed the port to manage higher volumes with better efficiency. This record is not just about numbers; it reflects the dedication of the entire workforce and the seamless cooperation between various stakeholders.

Shri P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of the Paradip Port Authority, credited this success to the visionary leadership of Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal. He noted that the hard work of officers, employees, and contractual workers played a vital role in reaching this peak. By focusing on modernization and capacity building, the port is ensuring it stays ahead of the curve in a competitive global market.

Looking forward, this strong start sets an optimistic pace for the rest of the year. The port is currently on a path to becoming a world-class mega port. As trade demands increase, Paradip remains a central pillar for India’s economic development and Odisha’s industrial reputation. Continued investments in technology and worker safety are expected to keep these growth numbers steady in the coming months.
