Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: As the assembly poll is just two to three months away, the ruling BJD is actively preparing for the elections in Dhamnagar assembly segment of Bhadrak district.
Since the 2019 election, the BJD has lacked strong leadership in Dhamanagar. This absence has prompted the party to strategize carefully for the upcoming elections.
After the defeat in the bye-election in 2022, BJD is not in the mood to accommodate the expelled and rebel leader Rajendra Das into the party fold. Similarly, Muktikant Mandal, the former MLA is said to be denied party ticket in Dhamnagar.
Therefore, BJD plans to field a new face against Suryabansi Suraj, the sitting MLA from BJP.The party is looking for someone who can effectively challenge the BJP MLA in the ensuing election.
Several individuals have emerged as prospective candidates for the BJD ticket.
Dr. Sanjay Das, who recently resigned from the government service, has been involved in community service, He has also been giving free medical service in Tihidi. He is now the front-runner for the party ticket.
Satyaprakash Sethi, an officer in the state Cooperative department, has begun engaging with constituents.
Besides, Priyabrata Sethi, has been in contact with party leaders in Bhubaneswar.
Overall, the BJD is focusing on selecting a strong candidate to contest against Suryabansi Suraj in the forthcoming elections, as they aim to regain control of the Dhamanagar assembly segment.
After the death of BJP MLA Bishnu Sethi, BJP had fielded his son Suryabansi Suraj in the bye-election in June 2022 and won the election. Now, It is anticipated that the BJP will field Suryabansi Suraj once again in the Dhamanagar assembly segment
