Berhampur, Feb 18: Bikram Panda, former MLA of Berhampur and an accused in the Pitabas Panda murder case, was readmitted to the emergency ward of MKCG Medical College after experiencing severe chest and abdominal pain. Police maintained tight security during his hospital stay. Reports suggest he could be referred to a private hospital for further treatment.

Bikram had earlier submitted consent for advanced treatment, including gallbladder stone surgery, and had been under observation at MKCG for several days. Despite preparations for surgery being completed, hospital authorities unexpectedly discharged him and sent him back to jail, prompting his lawyer to file a petition in court, citing serious risks to his life.

Authorities have yet to clarify the reasons behind the sudden discharge, raising questions about prison medical care and hospital protocols.
