Bhubaneswar, November 16: A storm of condemnation has followed an incident during a stage performance of the epic ‘Ramayana’ in Ganjam district, where obscene acts were allegedly performed, shocking the local community.

The incident occurred in Maulabhanaja village, located under the jurisdiction of the Digapahandi police. The controversy erupted during the ‘Seeta Harana’ scene of the epic drama, when the actor portraying Ravana reportedly crossed all boundaries of decency. Eyewitnesses claim the performer appeared semi-undressed on stage and engaged in inappropriate behavior with a female artist, disregarding the sanctity of the mythological narrative.

What further fueled the outrage was the inclusion of over 50 item dancers in the performance, a move that many have criticized for turning the revered play into an overtly vulgar spectacle. Local residents have voiced their disapproval, stating that both the performers and event organizers abandoned all sense of responsibility in the name of entertainment.

Videos of the performance have surfaced on social media, with large portions of the footage being deemed unsuitable for public viewing. The viral videos have only heightened public outcry, with many calling for immediate and strict action against those involved.

While the incident has sparked widespread condemnation, there has been no official response from the performers or organizers of the event.
