Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar is set to witness the traditional ‘Ravan Podi Utsav’ at seven key locations today, marking the grand culmination of Vijaya Dashami celebrations.

The event, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, is a central part of Dussehra festivities and commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana, according to the epic ‘Ramayana’.

According to the Twin City Commissionerate Police, effigies of Ravana will be set ablaze at the following venues:

  • Naharkanta (Pahal PS)
  • Baramunda (Khandagiri PS)
  • Koradakanta and Bankual (Badagada PS)
  • Gopalpur (Info-Valley PS)
  • KIIT Road (Infocity PS)
  • Football Ground (Kapilaprasad Airfield PS)

Thousands of devotees and spectators are expected to gather at these venues to witness the burning of the towering effigies, a spectacle that signifies the destruction of evil and the victory of good.

It is worth noting that Bhubaneswar is hosting a total of 193 Durga Puja pandals this year, each adorned with elaborate themes, vibrant lighting, and traditional rituals. The festive spirit is at its peak as pandals across the city draw large crowds.

This year, Bhubaneswar is hosting 193 Durga Puja pandals. To ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the festivities, the Commissionerate Police has put in place a comprehensive security arrangement across the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD).The deployment includes:

  • 3 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs)
  • 6 Additional DCPs
  • 12 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs)
  • 33 Inspectors
  • 172 Sub-Inspectors (SIs) and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs)
  • 38 platoons of police personnel
  • 20 platoons of Home Guards

The security arrangements have been further reinforced with the deployment of a Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) company, a Special Tactical Unit, and a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. Additionally, CCTV surveillance has been installed at several pandals to ensure real-time monitoring and enhanced vigilance.
