Bhubaneswar, Jan 25: As elections are approaching, the ruling Biju Janata Dal is worried about the Dhamnagar assembly segment of Bhadrak district. Who will be the party candidate in ensuing election is not yet clear.

Since the 2019 election, the ruling BJD has been leaderless in this assembly segment. After defeat in the bye-election in 2022, the ruling BJD seems very much cautious. Therefore, the party is looking for the right candidate for the upcoming election.

There is a long list of aspirants for the BJD ticket, five new faces have emerged as prospective candidates.

Dr. Sanjay Das, who recently resigned from his government job, has been going around the localities and mobilizing the party workers. He is the front-runner for the party ticket.

Similarly, Satyaprakash Sethi, an officer of the state Cooperative department, has started moving in the constituency and attending various functions. He has also set his eyes on party ticket.

Journalist Rajendra Jena, a Dalit leader has also started lobbying for the BJD ticket. One Priyabrata Sethi is also in the race, he has been in contact with the party leaders in the state capital Bhubaneswar. Former BJD MLA Muktikant Mandal is also in the race..  There are many aspirants in BJD, but who will fight against BJP's Suryashulhi Suraj is not yet clear.

After the death of BJP MLA Bishnu Sethi, BJP had fielded his son Suryabansi Suraj in the bye-election in June 2022 and won the election. Now, it is very much sure that BJP will field Suryabansi Suraj again in Dhamanagar this time .

On the other hand, Hrudananda Sethi and  Madhusmita Sethi, the last-time party candidate are aspiring to get Congress ticket in the ensuing election.
