Bhubaneswar, March 5: The political climate in Jharsuguda seems to be heating up as the election approaches. Some potential candidates might contest against incumbent BJD MLA Dipali Das

In the upcoming election in Jharsuguda, the contest revolves around several prominent candidates. 

Deepali Das, daughter of the late Naba Kishore Das, the incumbent BJD MLA  secured a resounding victory in the recent by-poll, winning by a significant margin of 48,721 votes. Deepali Das stepped into the political arena after her father’s unfortunate demise and has garnered substantial support from the people of Jharsuguda. She might be the first preference for the ruling BJD nominee in the ensuing election.

On the other hand, Tankadhar Tripathy, who was the BJP nominee in the bye-election in 2022, is a potential candidate. However, there are concerns among the local BJP cadre as he is an outsider to Jharsuguda.

BJP youth leaders Mahendra Kodia and Sudhansu Dora are also reportedly in the race for the party ticket.

Similarly, in the Grand Old Party Congress, one faction within the party is advocating for Amita Biswal, daughter of former CM Hemananda Biswal, to be their candidate. Her nomination aims to revive the party’s prospects in Jharsuguda.

Notably, the previous Congress candidate, Tarun Pandey, son of former MLA Birendra Pandey, performed poorly in the last by-election, making the chances of his candidature slim.

While the political landscape heats up, these three candidates vie for the opportunity to represent Jharsuguda in the upcoming assembly election. The results will undoubtedly shape the local political dynamics, but the ruling BJD currently holds a comfortable majority in the Odisha Assembly.

The final decision on the candidates is yet to be confirmed by both parties.
