England, July 12: West Indies humbled visitors England by an innings and 114 runs in the Lord's Test and took a vital 1-0 lead in the three-match series on Friday.

As the Caribbean batters struggled against formidable England and surrendered meekly, former West Indies skipper Brian Lara lamented the lack of talent development at the grassroots level in West Indies.

Expressing his utter dissatisfaction, legendary Lara opined that pumping money into West Indies cricket will not help in improving their game. He added that the West Indies failed to nurture the talent at the grassroots level.

He reminded that West Indies cricket has been experiencing a decline in recent years. Lara stated that the Caribbean lacks the dominance it once had in world cricket during the 1970s and 80s, when they were known for their formidable pace attack and batting abilities.

Worth mentioning that even during Lara's playing days in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, West Indies witnessed flashes of brilliance with the bat and bowl. But then failed to maintain consistency in international cricket.

However, West Indies have shown intent and talent in the T20Is. But in ODIs and Tests they are yet to match the major Test playing nations, which has drawn attention of Lara and many former players.
