West Bengal-based youth held while trafficking endangered pangolin

Balasore, August 25: Balasore forest officials on Friday detained a West Bengal-based youth for allegedly trafficking  some rare species of wild animals.

Based on the tip off of the RPF, the sleuths recovered a huge cache of pangolin, wild birds and turtles form his possession.

The accused has been identified as Sanjay Nayak, a native of the West Midnapore area.

Sources said that during a routine check up in the train, the RPF deployed at the Rupsa Railway Station spotted a cotton sack full of pangolin, turtles and some wild birds( Dahuka). Further investigation revealed that one Sanjay Nayak was trafficking them to the West Bengal for   a big deal. Subsequently, the RPF jawans informed it to the Rupsa forest officials.

The wildlife species were seized from the train. A case in this connection was lodged and the accused was remanded for judicial custody, said a forest official.
