Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has on Monday issued a cold wave warning for four districts in Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, as temperatures have sharply dropped. G Udaygiri in Kandhamal recorded the state's lowest temperature at 5.4°C.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD issued a Yellow Warning for Jharsuguda, Khurda, Sundergarh, and Kandhamal, predicting that cold wave conditions will persist until Tuesday morning. Cold waves affected Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Angul on Sunday night.

On Monday, Jharsuguda saw a severe dip to 9.8°C, 6.7 degrees below normal.

Bhubaneswar experienced its coldest November night in 25 years, dropping to 12.9°C, which is 6.1 degrees below normal.

Cuttack recorded 13.2°C, while Angul's temperature fell to 10.2°C, 7.3 degrees below average.

Other cold spots included Semiliguda (6.1°C), Daringbadi (7°C), and several regions recording temperatures below 12°C, such as Rourkela (10°C) and Koraput (10.8°C).

The IMD reports that minimum temperatures remain significantly below normal by 5-7°C, caused by dry, cold north-westerly winds from northern India.
