Bhubaneswar, May 12: Heavy rainfall accompanied with lightning and gusty winds lashed the twin-cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar late last night.
In the highest amount of rainfall of this year in the capital city, Bhubaneswar received 76.8 mm rainfall last night along with gusty wind having a speed of around 60 kmph. Following the rain, the capital city witnessed a sudden drop in temperature by around 8.3 Degree Celsius.
Apart from this, several low-lying areas in the city were inundated and faced power outage. Vehicular movement was also affected in different areas.
Similarly, heavy rain also lashed several other places in the state. While Paradip registered 51.4 mm rainfall, Puri witnessed 37.8 mm rainfall, Balasore and Chandbali recorded 35mm and 32 mm rainfalls respectively.
Meanwhile, the weather department has sounded thunderstorm warnings for several parts of Odisha till May 15.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has also issued Yellow Warning for severe rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning activities in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts on Sunday.
Similarly, warnings for lightning and gusty wind up to 30-50 kmph have also been issued for 15 more districts.
However, the Met department has forecasted that heat wave conditions are likely to return to Odisha from May 17.
