Mumbai, July 4: They had to wait eagerly for 13 long years to watch another Cricket World Cup winning victory march in Mumbai. Even the ODI World Cup 2023 at home could not fulfil that dream, as India lost shockingly to Australia in the one-sided final.
But on Thursday, the Mumbai city was exuberating again with enthusiasm and jubilations as Team India led by local boy Rohit Sharma staged a victory march from Nariman Point to historic Wankhede Stadium, here. It was the same stadium, where India had won the ODI World Cup in 2011 led by MS Dhoni.
The years-long awaited great occasion, the celebrations and triumphant mood of fans and organisers were so energetic and intense that even Mumbai rain could not deter them. Thousands of enthusiast crowd gathered to greet their World Cup winning cricket heroes braving the rain.
Apart from the organisers including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) officials, the ever alert Mumbai Police, were vigilant throughout the hours-long celebrations, They ensured there was no untoward situation during the celebrations and the players and support staff are not troubled by excited fans.
The contributions, sacrifice and relentless service of the cops and the media, often go unnoticed. But someone as vigilant and thankful as Virat Kohli, can never forget to reciprocate the police personnel for their duty and sincerity during the intense and warm celebrations to greet the cricketers.
Kohli wrote a thank you message for the Mumbai Police for their incredible work during India's T20 World Cup victory parade in Mumbai on Thursday.
Since thousands of fans gathered to greet and wish the World Cup winning Team India, the Marine Drive had come almost to a standstill. Mumbai Police were forced to issue a traffic advisory to the citizens ahead of Team India's celebrations.
