Buenos Aires, Aug 20: Argentina will be without their star players Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria in their next two World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia..
Due to injury, World Cup 2022 winning captain Messi 's name was missing from Argentina's 28-member squad named by coach Lionel Scaloni. Argentina will meet Chile on September 5 and take on Colombia on September 10.
But Messi is not the only big star to be missing from the Argentina squad. Angel Di Maria too did not feature in the team-list. The 36-year-old Maria retired from the national team after winning the recent Copa America title. He was adjudged the Player of the Match in Copa America 2024 final as Argentina won the title for the 16th time.
World Cup champion Argentina lead South American qualifying with 15 points after six matches, as per current table standings.
