Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The Commissionerate Police’s Special Crime Unit (SCU) has intensified its investigation into the seizure of a carbine and five pistols from two Bihar-based arms dealers. The unit has contacted Bihar Police to verify the criminal backgrounds of the arrested traffickers. The SCU is set to move court today seeking five days’ remand for the duo.

During preliminary questioning, the accused-Divyanshu Kumar and Chandan Kumar- reportedly told police that they had been operating an arms supply network in Odisha for the past four months. However, the SCU suspects the duo may have been running this syndicate for several years.

Investigators are seeking clarity on several key aspects:

• How many times the pair had previously been arrested by Bihar Police

• How often they visited Odisha for illegal arms trade

• Whether they operated solely in Bhubaneswar or also in other cities

• Which criminal gangs, mining mafias, builders, or political figures may have procured weapons from them

The SCU also believes that multiple local intermediaries in Odisha may have been linked to the racket, helping transport arms directly from Munger in Bihar. Officials say sustained interrogation during the remand period is expected to reveal the full extent of the network.

Divyanshu and Chandan were arrested early Saturday morning by an SCU team from Unit-3, Malisahi, officials confirmed.
